Are all Jeep wheel bolt pattern 5x5s? The quick answer is NO. Though most come to market with this common pattern, some older models, for instance, 1st and 2nd Wrangler generations, may be installed with other designs.

That’s why it is necessary to thoroughly understand these aspects before performing car service on your own. Now dive into our article to find out the bolt pattern for Jeep Wrangler.

Bolt Pattern For Jeep Wrangler

Jeep Wrangler models from 2007 have the same bolt pattern of 5-on-5 or 5×5″ (5×127 mm), while previous models have a 5×4.5″ (5×114.3 mm) pattern. There are 5 lug nuts on the wheel, forming a 5″- or 4.5″-diameter circle.

1987 – 2007

The first Wranglers, the YJ generation, drew inspiration from the Jeep C1-7. They become more dominant in good comfort and better handling than their processor.

In 1992, the manufacturer offered several upgrades, such as a three-speed automatic transmission or anti-lock brakes. However, they maintained a consistent wheel lug design throughout the period – 5×4.5″ or 5×114.3 mm.

This strategy continued into the 2nd generation models. In other words, the Jeep TJ bolt pattern featured 5 lug holes and an imaginary circle of 4.5″ in diameter.

On the other hand, Fiat Chrysler constantly catches up with modern features. The latecomers, for example, served an upgraded FM sound system (one cassette and four speakers).

The Sport edition even came with a CD player and a 7-speaker set. Plus, consumers approached Unlimited, Rubicon, and Sahara versions with gearbox enhancement.

2007 marked a spectacular change in Wanglers. The 3rd generation cars appeared on the market with a longer wheelbase and four-door models.

The manufacturer has also changed the factory wheels to a 5×127 mm or 5×5″ bolt pattern, along with the aesthetic improvement. In other words, the Jeep JK bolt pattern involved 5 holes and a lug circle of 127 mm in diameter.

This design has lasted until now despite other improvements. The 4th generation maintains the overall exterior styling, including the Jeep JL lug pattern, but the core technology has improved.

Improved aerodynamics and features have resulted in better fuel economy. The manufacturer also offers several engine options, such as four-cylinder or diesel.

How To Know The Jeep Wrangler Lug Pattern?

You can check the owner’s manual, as all manufacturers will specify all the car specifications there.

If you happen to lose the manual, take a look at the wheel and look for a stamp where the bolt pattern is printed.

Measuring the diameter yourself is also possible. For the 5-lug pattern on the Wrangler, you should measure from one bolt’s back from the center of the opposing bolt (there are 2 opposing bolts, and either is okay since the results are the same).

The last resort is driving to an auto store and asking the mechanic about this spec.

How to Retorque Wrangler’s Bolts

The good news for Wrangler owners is that you don’t have to struggle too much with center holes. Though there are two different patterns, working with all 5-lug wheels follows the same order. Specifically, you’d better tighten the lugs in the star shape. It is best to refer to the manufacturer’s manual for a specific visual tutorial.

What else you need for this job is a torque wrench. Approach each bolt hole in the specified order and screw a half-turn on the first round. This tip makes sense, especially when lifting the wheels with the forks. After lowering them, tighten a complete turn on all parts with a hand force equivalent to the proper torque specification.
